Good new, everyone © :) I’m back on track and in the process of figuring out how to register an account in Alicia Online (the cool Korean fantasy horse racing game). Some of the information i found is also applicable to other Korean games, if there are any fancy to join but don’t know how to register an account or a Korean game. This post is covering the most basic subject – how to find a KSSN (Korean Social Security Number) which is required to create an account for any of the present Korean games. If that is what you’re looking for, keep reading the post!
What is a KSSN?
Korean Social Security Number is issued by Korean government to every human being in South Korea, it’s their passport numbers. You can’t fake it, only use an already existing one that belongs to someone in Korea.
Is using a KSSN legal?
Of course it is not. It’s like using someone else’s passport in USA, or something. But unless you’re going to Korea tomorrow i don’t see how that would hurt anyone, because, hey, we’re using these people’s KSSNs to play online games, not to rob a bank! There are several downsides, though:
1. You need to use a KSSN that belong to a person 18-15 years old, if it belongs to somebody older your account will need confirmation with that person’s real life documents or by a phone. If you fail to do that (and you will fail), your account will be deleted after some time.
2. If that person whose KSSN you’ve been using decides to play the same game, they will see your account created with their data and could claim it as their own. Because, technically, it IS their account.
But still, until a certain game is released in English for the Western audience, we have only two choices: either use a KSSN or not play that game at all.
So, how does one goes to find a KSSN?
Method number 1:
Open a Korean version of either Google, Yahoo or Baidu. These links will open a search with certain keywords already present.
- means KSSN in Korean. xxxxxx are date of birth, 06/17/1983 will look like "830617". The one used in this example has probably already been used a lot, by the way.
Use some other dates of birth for people around 15-18 years and look what the search engines will give you. I prefer using Google because it is able to translate the results right away. For example, let’s assume you’ve found a string of text like this one:
- it’s the name of that person whose KSSN you have found. Usually Korean names consist of 3 complex hieroglyphs made of several syllable character.
Method number 2:
There are several KSSN generators made for faking KSSN, but “faking” in this case only means you’re generating a KSSN that hopefully belong to an alive person and hasn’t been used for this particular game by someone else.
Method number 3:
Search Google’s English version for KSSN and narrow the results by viewing only the entries for last month or a few weeks, i.e. the fresh one only. Look if anyone is posting a list of KSSN numbers – they leak out from Korean Internets from time to time. Just make sure it’s not some kind of a scam that requires you to finish a paying survey to download the list, or something like that. And make sure the list is fresh, otherwise the chances of every KSSN being already taken by someone are much higher.
Method number 4: - Update, added 10.07.11
Run a search for “KSSN list” or something similar on Google. It will probably show you a bunch of scam websites and YouTube videos asking to finish some test where they’ll ask for money, but along with all that crap you will certainly get a link or two to a real KSSN list. Sometimes people “on the other side” get a hold of a list of people’s KSSNs and post it online for others to use. Just make sure you set your search results to be a month or less old and that you’re not downloading some virus or trojan. Worked for me.
Most of the KSSN you’ll find will not work, either because they’re already registered by their owners or by some other internet lurkers like you, but if you keep searching long enough and you’ll find a working KSSN sooner or later!
